Basic Cake Pop Recipe

  • 9 x 9 in. Baking Pan

  • 1 box (9 oz.) Duncan Hines Snack Cake Mix (any flavor), baked and cooled according to package directions
  • 1/2 cup Duncan Hines Creamy Home-Style Frosting (any flavor)

48 – 1 tablespoon sized cake ball pops
(each about 1-1/4 in. diameter)
or 24 – 2 tablespoon sized cake ball pops
(each about 1-1/2 in. diameter)
or 16 – 3 tablespoon sized cake ball pops
(each about 1-3/4 in. diameter)

  1. step 1

In large bowl, use hands to crumble cake until no large chunks remain.

  2. step 2

Add frosting and mix with fingers until well combined.

  3. step 3

Form mixture into cake balls or press into shaped silicone molds.

  4. step 4

Chill in refrigerator at least 2 hours. If using a silicone mold, carefully remove cake balls from mold.

  5. dipping

In microwave-safe bowl, melt Duncan Hines Creamy Home-Style Frosting for 30 seconds on 50% power; stir to distribute heat evenly. Continue microwaving for 15 second intervals at 50% power until icing is warmed and thin. Dip one end of stick into icing and insert into chilled pop; let set. Wait until icing is firm before dipping the pop completely into melted frosting; gently shake off excess.

  6. mix-ins

Add punch to your pops by blending some fantastic flavors into the mix!

Add 1/2 cup: mini candy-coated chocolates; white chocolate, mini chocolate or butterscotch chips; crushed chocolate or peanut butter sandwich cookies; crushed vanilla wafers or amaretto cookies; chopped peanuts or other favorite nuts; chopped apples or pears; raisins or dried cranberries.

Add 1 tablespoon orange or lemon zest; 1/3 cup mini cinnamon dots; 1/3 cup Rainbow Jimmies or other Sprinkles. Or, substitute 4 tablespoons of your favorite jam for 4 tablespoons of icing when mixing.
